The most mysterious shrines of Ukraine

Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra

At all times since the XII century, the Christians had a rule at least once in a lifetime to visit Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. Now it ranks sixth in the list of the most beautiful shrines of the world. Pechersk Lavra survived fires and downfalls. But whatever happens, it is reconstructed! There are many unique relics of Christianity.

How to get there: Ivan Mazepa Street, 21. A few stops from the metro station “Arsenal”.


The Second Jerusalem

In 1240, several people witnessed a miracle on the rock Pochaievska - the Virgin Mary appeared in the fire. Shr left her footprint filled with clean water. According to the legend, the water was healing - many people get rid of diseases by drinking it. More than 400 years people go to Pochaevsk and ask for recovery before the image of the Blessed Mother of God.

How to get there: get to Ternopil and from there go to Pochaiv.


The main shrine of Lviv

St. George’s Cathedral is one of the most important shrines of the city. It is worth visiting in order to see this amazing cathedral. St. George’s Cathedral is decorated with statues of Saints Athanasius and the Lion, St. George. The most prominent figures of the country are buried in the church: the remains of Prince Osmomisl, patriarch Joseph Slipyi etc.

How to get there: Lviv. The temple is located in the center of the city so it is not difficult to find it.


Sviatohorsk’ shrine

Every year, millions of people (not only from Ukraine) come here to pray before the miraculous icon of the Mother of God and touch the relics of St. John the Hermit. In 2004, the monastery received the status of Lavra. On its territory there are a few churches, chapels and two monasteries. There is also the cave inside of which you can see the unique church of Saint Nicholas, St. John the Hermit’s cell and the other monks.

How to get there: by train or car to Donetsk region, Sviatogorsk, Nina Street, 1.


Maniavskyi monastery

Everyone knows about the existence of this unique monastery. Today the territory it is so small that from a distance the monastery and Holy Cross Monastery bell tower make the wonderful scenery. In 2001, the Maniavskyi monastery revived in the original form. In a small grotto you can see icons and burning candles. In the mornings and evenings, the beautiful chime can be heard...

How to get there: Manyava village (Bohorodchany district), Ivano-Frankivsk region. At 25 km from the railway station Nadvornaia.


Tthe Church of the Red Rock

It’s hard not to see it! On the cliff, among the rich greenery stands white church. The church provides different religious services. The church has become a symbol of rebirth. In front of it there is an observation ground with a wonderful view of the sea and Foros!

How to get there: from Yalta to the Foros village. From there go up on foot or by taxi.
