Mariinsky Palace is the pearl of the Kyiv architecture. Majestic and magnificent construction of the 18th century in baroque style is a wonderful landmark for excursions. Looking at the creation of genius Bartolomeo Rastrelli recall Andersen with his child-like dream of pure beauty. The palace was built in 1750-55 by order of Empress Elizabeth, daughter of Peter I. While having been in Kyiv, she was fascinated by the city and ordered to build a residence of the emperor. The palace served as a residence for the representatives of the royal family and nobles, arriving to Kyiv with visits. But Elizabeth never managed to visit her Kyivan residence, so the palace’s first resident became Catherine II.

Today, the palace is a ceremonial place of residence for the Ukrainian President. There are solemn events of national importance, the various ceremonies, receptions, summits and meetings of foreign delegations are held at the highest level.
