The House of Scientists or Gerhard Casino

Without doubt, elegant old architecture is Lviv’s trump card. A wonderful example of that is the House of Scientists, or Casino of Gerhard, a valuable neo-baroque monument. The construction was carried out by the famous Austrian company Fellner and Helmer, in 1898.

Outside, the building attracts attention with its intricately decorated facade, but many do not even guess what unusual interiors are hidden behind the walls. The decoration of the House of Scientists strikes by its pompousness and magnificence - the abundance of moulding and expensive jewelry, antique furniture, marble and silk wallpaper.

Wonderful carved oak staircase takes you to the luxurious halls: the White hall with a fireplace and a luxurious black piano which was played by black, which was played by one of the Mozarts, the Red hall with silk wallpaper, hanging crystal chandeliers and lots of ornaments; cozy Beige hall, green garden for walking, galleries and, of course, the well-known library.

Currently, building’s rich interiors, which didn’t change over the last hundred years, frequently serve as setting for historical movies. Lviv balls regularly carried out there.
