Zolochiv castle is an old castle near Lviv which over its history has been a royal residence, a prison, and an educational establishment.

The castle was built in the Middle Age as a residence of Polish king as well as impregnable fortification. The castle complex consists of two buildings: the Renaissance style Big palace – the royal family’s living quarters when visiting Zolochiv – and the Chinese palace, built by Polish king for his French wife. Secret passages connected the king’s cabinet to the treasury and the walls.

Currently, the halls of the palace hold several expositions that describe the castle’s uneasy history. One can view the interiors’ original layout, medieval furniture as well as hunting trophies. There are works of eastern art of in the Chinese palace.
